Week 9: We Don't Like That

Kirk Cousin might have his own T-shirt, but even that
sweet T will not be enough to knock off the Pats.W
Week 9, really? Where does the time go.

This has been a wacky year so far to almost ludicrous proportions. Devonta Freeman leads the league in rush yards, yards from scrimmage, and total touchdowns. Chip Kelly's revolutionary offense looks like a bunch of high schoolers running around confused. Andy Dalton is the best quarterback in the league not named Tom Brady.

We have another fun slate of game this week. Watch and enjoy, after you read our weekly breakdowns of course.

Austen's Seven-Point Pick
@New England over Washington

Austen: Pats do not lose at home, especially to the Redskins.

Stally: This was a pretty obvious pick.  The best team in the league at home against one of the worst teams in the league.

Stally's Seven-Point Pick
@New Orleans over Tennessee

Stally: The Saints defense didn't do Drew Brees any favors in his historic seven touchdown day, but the quarterback would not be denied.  The win gave New Orleans three straight against the Falcons, Colts, and Giants, all of whom are competitive.  It should continue to roll at home against an uncompetitive Titans team.

Austen: Read between the lines of what Stally said above: the Saints defense is terrible. It took Brees seven touchdowns to knock off the Giants. This game should not be this high, despite the horrendous Titans coming to town.

Austen's Six-Point Pick
@Cincinnati over Cleveland

Austen: This game is locked in as a win for me, but the logic behind it was simple. The Bengals are undefeated and the Browns were starting Johnny Manziel. Enough said.

Stally: The Browns pulled off a shocking 24-3 upset of the Bengals in a Thursday night game last year, so I was wary of this one.  In the end though, I'm not surprised that this was a lopsided result.

Stally's Six-Point Pick
@New York Jets over Jacksonville

Stally: The Jets have quarterback questions, but they're a team that gets buy on a strong defense and that should neutralize Jacksonville's up-and-coming playmakers.

Austen: Stally faults me for having confidence in the Jags being a competitive team. I'm very afraid that this is the week the Jets find out just how competitive.

Austen's Five-Point Pick
Atlanta over @San Francisco

Austen: Blaine Gabbert is better than Colin Kaepernick only in Bizarro World. The 49ers are the worst team in the league with Gabbert starting.

Stally: The Falcons barely beat Tennessee and then lost to Tampa Bay.  I still have them winning this one, but not with as much confidence as Austen.

Stally's Five-Point Pick
@Pittsburgh over Oakland

Stally: The return of Big Ben didn't help Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati, but the Bengals have been one of the best teams in the league.  Oakland certainly isn't the old pushover Raiders, but asking them to win on the road is a tall task.

Austen: If this was in Oakland, I'd take the Raiders, that is how good I think this team is. And how weak the Steelers are without Le'Veon Bell.

Austen's Four-Point Pick
Denver over @Indianapolis

Austen: The Colts offense have been one of the worst in the league with T.Y. Hilton in the lineup. Even with him, they are going to struggle to put up points on what looks to possibly be a historically great defense.

Stally: I wouldn't mind taking the Colts if T.Y. Hilton plays for them, but all indications are that he'll be out.  Indianapolis won't have the playmakers to spoil Peyton's Homecoming.

Stally's Four-Point Pick
Philadelphia over @Dallas

Stally: The Cowboys haven't been competitive without Tony Romo.  I'll continue picking against them until he returns.

Austen: No argument here.

Austen's Three-Point Pick
New York Giants over @Tampa Bay

Austen: I did not want to pick this game, but I have a lot of upsets following this pick so I stuck to my board. This could really go either way.

Stally: The Giants defense just gave up a ton of points (52) to New Orleans, and Tampa Bay's strength is its offensive playmakers.  Expect a New York win, but don't expect a blowout.

Stally's Three-Point Pick
@San Diego over Chicago

Stally: Yuck.  Both of these teams are pretty dismal.  The Bears are 2-5 and absent their best player, Matt Forte, so it's hard to see them pulling out this road win.

Austen: I've got the Bears upsetting the Chargers. Phillip Rivers and Jay Cutler have a history together, meaning they do not like each other. This should be a fun game to watch.

Austen's Two-Point Pick
St. Louis over @Minnesota

Austen: Adrian Peterson is not his old self, Todd Gurley is. This game is the passing of the torch to the young gun as the best running back in football.

Stally: I have Minnesota.  These two teams should be pretty evenly matched and battling for playoff position.  I'm going to go with the 5-2 home team.

Stally's Two-Point Pick
Green Bay over @Carolina

Stally: This is going to be a great game.  I'll continue my bad habit of trying to pick against Carolina and go with a Green Bay team that will want to bounce back after a lopsided loss in Denver.

Austen: This strategy has failed Stally every week, but he keeps making the same mistake. I'm going to ride with the Panthers until they give me a reason to think otherwise. This Green Bay offense was shut down by the Broncos last week, and I think it will be more of the same this week against the second best defense in the league.

Austen's One-Point Pick
@Buffalo over Miami

Austen: Both of these clubs are scatter shots. One week they look like they are contenders, the next week they look like they could not beat a high school team. I'll take the home team and move on with my life.

Stally: With how mediocre the non-elite AFC teams are, both of these 3-4 teams are contenders.  I'm going to go with the Bills as well, fresh off of the bye week.
